Baltimore Through Egyptian Eyes: A Day of Firsts

Waking up to the astonishing weather of Baltimore, I stepped outside, feeling the cool breeze against my skin. The rapidly changing weather here still amazes me — one moment it’s raining, then sunny, and soon after, windy. This kind of unpredictability was a rarity in Cairo, where the sun ruled the skies most days.

As I walked to a nearby café for breakfast, the vibrant cultural diversity of Baltimore greeted me warmly. The array of food choices was a delightful surprise. By lunch, I found myself trying Mexican tacos, savoring the spices of Middle Eastern falafel, and delighting in the rich flavors of Indian curry. It was a culinary adventure I could only dream of back home.

After my satisfying meals, I decided to explore the city’s famous landmarks. The Inner Harbor was my first stop. Its magnificent view, with boats gently rocking on the water and the cityscape in the background, was nothing short of breathtaking. The National Aquarium, one of the nicest I’ve ever visited, drew me in with its colorful marine life and captivating exhibits.

Next, I headed to the Maryland Zoo, eager to see the award-winning Penguin Coast exhibit. Home to the largest colony of endangered African penguins in North America, the exhibit was a delightful spectacle. Watching these charming creatures waddle and swim was a joyous experience.

The day continued with a visit to Mount Vernon, where the towering Washington Monument stood proudly. The historical significance of the site combined with the stunning architecture made for a memorable visit. As I strolled through the area, I felt connected to the rich history and vibrant culture of Baltimore.

A short walk led me to Patterson Park, a beautiful oasis in the heart of the city, just five minutes from Johns Hopkins. The park’s lush greenery and serene atmosphere provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It became my go-to place to unwind after a long day of work.

Throughout my journey, I was surrounded by friends from all corners of the globe. Each one brought a piece of their homeland with them, and soon I found myself collecting souvenirs and coins from various countries. It was like having a little world tour right in my living room.

The day culminated in attending an unforgettable baseball game. The energy of the crowd, the thrill of the game, and the camaraderie shared with fellow fans made it an experience to cherish. It was moments like these that made me appreciate the unique blend of cultures, experiences and opportunities that Baltimore has to offer.

From the predictable sun of Cairo to the ever-changing skies of Baltimore, my journey had been filled with new adventures, delightful surprises and lasting memories. Each day brought something new, making this city feel like home in ways I had never imagined.
